Dr Marie-Josee Van Rijn is a vascular surgeon and epidemiologist at Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Dr Van Rijn finished writing and defending her thesis dissecting the genetics of stroke in 2007. Since, she has conducted research in the field of both aortic and venous disease with publications in peer-reviewed journals and has written several book chapters on these subjects. Dr Van Rijn is the leading researcher in multiple ongoing studies at her department. She is part of the editorial board of The European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and the Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Review. Dr Van Rijn was a member of the writing committee of the updated ESVS guidelines on chronic venous disease which was published in January 2022 and is the co-author and co-editor of the Dutch textbook Phlebology.
