Prof Hence Verhagen is Professor and Chief of Vascular Surgery Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Prof Verhagen graduated from medical school in 1992 and completed his training in The Netherlands, Zimbabwe and the UK, and his vascular Fellowship at The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia. In 2002, he became Associate Professor in Vascular Surgery at the University Medical Center in Utrecht, before in 2007 he accepted the position of Professor and Chief of Vascular Surgery at the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam.
With his special interests covering aortic pathology and interventions, Prof Verhagen has expertise in vascular imaging, carotid surgery, and peripheral interventions, and has performed a number of “first in Man” implantations of aortic endografts. He has served a Principal Investigator or on the steering committees of several significant trials around aortic stentgrafts.
Widely published in international journals, Prof Verhagan has served in several leadership positions in leading societies and events, and is the 2021 President of the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS).
